PREGNANCY MASSAGE

Massage during pregnancy is important because it promotes relaxation which improves the health and well-being of both the mother and baby. Whilst pregnancy is an exciting time, it puts a lot of pressure on your body physically, mentally and emotionally and your muscles, ligaments and joints can become strained as a result.

Benefits of Pregnancy Massage:

Stimulation of the circulation of blood
A good blood circulation provides essential nutrients and fluids to all of the body including the placenta which is crucial for the baby’s development.

Lymphatic drainage eliminates toxins
As well as eliminating toxins, it also reduces the risk of oedema which could lead to Carpal Tunnel and Tarsal Tunnel Syndrome.

Releases muscle tension
It is common for the muscles of the upper back, shoulders, lower back and hips to become tense and painful during pregnancy and is caused by postural change and hormone release. It can lead to major issues such as Sciatica, prolapsed discs and Symphysis Pubis Dysfunction (SPD) – It can also reduce the amount of muscle spasm and cramping.

Releases nerve compression
Releases compression on the nerves caused by muscle tension or oedema.

Induces deep relaxation and peaceful sleep
This will lead to a more comfortable pregnancy, labour and birth. It has been found that those mothers who have better sleep throughout their pregnancy, especially during the later stages, have a shorter labour.

Aids mental relaxation
Aids mental relaxation by reducing emotional stress, anxiety and creates a sense of well-being. As a result, it also eases the pain of headaches and heartburn that can commonly occur in pregnancy, as well as balancing mood swings and help depression.

Lowers blood pressure
Helps to lower and maintain blood pressure.
Encourages the release of oxytocin – oxytocin is a crucial, natural pain relief hormone that can hugely reduce pain and discomfort during labour and birth. Endorphins (the hormone that makes you feel good) is also found to be released through massage.
